BARANGAY ALUNOGAN, NATONIN MOUNTAIN PROVINCE
PROFILE
Long before the coming of the Spaniards people from Balangao inhabited the place Malingeb for almost three decades. They were ruled by their traditions and customary laws. They lived with limited fields to grow rice, in which harvest were not always enough because of the limited space and growing population. Some of the men went east and settled in Agurunan (Araw Today). They stayed there for decades living simple life through farming, hunting, and fishing along the brooks for food. Then came a time when an epidemic of unknown sickness affected the community so many died. They believe that a curse is upon them so they left the place and were divided into three groups and some went up to “Apat on the East” they settled “Tochoy” and on the west side in Pucho. Time came when they roam around to hunt when they discover a spring coming in between the rocks. While resting, they were surprised to see wild animals coming to drink on the spring. They went home and informed their families about their discovery. They went to clear the place for their kaingin near the spring. With the passing of years, they settled in that place. During night time, they usually hear the water from the spring having a ringing sound flowing into the stones below in their local dialect “Ornokan”, they called their place now “Ornokan” and was improved to Alunogan.
